Columbia Quarry Co
In 1906, the Columbia Quarry Co., founded by E.J. Krause and his brother Dr. C.H. Krause, evolved just like its stone has morphed into buildings and roads. The Krause brothers started by buying Brown Quarry in Columbia. They expanded their empire in 1956 when they purchased land in Dupo for the creation of a plant designed to load railroads cars by conveyor belt at 1,000 tons per hour. By 1960, the Dupo Plant #9 was up and running. On May 8, 2010, Frank "Sam" Beelman purchased the Columbia Quarry Co. This acquisition was comprised of three quarries: Columbia Plant #1, Waterloo Plant #7 and Dupo Plant #9. These operations of limestone aggregate quarries are adjacent to metro St. Louis. Columbia Plant #1 has been dormant for several years. The combined production capabilities are in excess of a million tons per year of high quality stone. The construction materials are IDOT approved and maintain a high degree of consistency. As you can see Dupo #9's MSHA statistics has been outstanding. Dupo #9 has received MSHA's Certificate of Achievement in Safety for Large Quarry Group and also Small Metal/Non Metal Mill
